Chapter 10

Chapter 10

As the clock got closer to 12:30. The more scared I got. I couldn't focus on anything.
"Collins. Umm Sidney Crosby is here to see you"
"Okay, thanks." I went out the waiting room.
"Ready to go." Sid asked
"Yeah."
We were at the restaurant. And ordered
"So what have you been up to?" I asked
"Hockey."
"I knew you would get here.  how does it feel?"
"Amazing. I can't believe."
"Really?"
"Yeah I never wanted to except it."
"That was good thinking." He nodded
"How work?"
"Good."
"Do you like it?"
"Yeah do it, I really like the people."
"Yeah, do you still write?"
"Yeah I do. Umm I still have and use the notebook you give me."
"Wow, really?"
"Yeah, I go everywhere with it."
"That's cool."
"Ummm how did you and ahh br- umm"
"Brooke and I meet?"
"Yeah."
"At a bar in Pittsburgh, we just hit it off."
"How long have you been together?"
"About a year."
"That good that you have found someone."
"So is there anyone in your life?" He asked
"Oh no."
"Why not?"
"There just hasn't been anyone."
"For how long?"
"Sidney."
"I'm sorry, but how long?"
"Since high school."
"High school?"
"Yeah." There was a moment of silence.
" ummm.........where is our food?" I looked around I took a deep breath.

We ate, talked about our families, what are plans are for the future. Sidney pushed me out of the restaurant.
"Well umm I guess you need to get back to work?"
"Yeah"
"We should do this again."
"Yeah.... Maybe."
"Maybe..... Collins what going on you've been weird?"
"Sidney we haven't seen each other in a long time, you have a girlfriend now."  I said "You don't find this little weird."
"It's not so weird anymore, but awkward.. Yes." He said "and what does me having a girlfriend have to do with anything."
"Really, Sid?" I looked at him.
"Okay, I get what your saying, but we can be friends like we were."
"A lot has changed."
"I know." He said, and looked at me. I couldn't look away. His eyes were the same, as I remember them. He was looking at me the same he used too when we were 17 years old.
"Okay. Friends." I said finally,  trying to gets us to stop looking at each other.
"Okay." He smiled
"Umm I really need to get back to work." I said
"Okay."

He took me back to work. We stopped at my office door.
"It was nice catching up." He said
"Yeah."
"We need to do it again, soon."
"Yeah, for sure." I said
"Okay, bye."
"Bye." I said. He walked away. I rolled into my office, put my head on the desks, why does all this feeling have to come back, they can't, he has a girlfriend.
I got home that night.
"How was work?" Sara asked
"Okay, I had lunch with Sidney."
"What?"
"Yeah. "
"How was that?"
"awkward"
"Really?"
" kind of.... I think... All i wanted was for him to kiss me."
"Oh."
"Yeah, and he has a girlfriend."
"Your feeling came back."
"Yeah, but here's the thing, I don't know if they ever left."
"Collins."
"What do I do?"
"It was just lunch, right?"
"We agreed to be friends." She looked at me.
"Then be friends." I shook my head, and went to room. I pulled out my leather notebook. Bad idea. I looking at all of my old writing, just thinking. Sidney and I can be friends. That's all we've ever been. We were never more, we were friends that had one kiss, so we can be friends...................right??
