Chapter  8

I put my hand on his cheek, and kissed him back. We broke apart slowly. He looked at me, I smiled at him. He face dropped, and he let go of me, and backed up.

“i shouldn’t have done that.”

“Sid, it was fine.” I smiled

“no, really I shouldn’t have done that.”

“what do you mean?”

“i shouldn’t have kissed you”

“you don’t like me? i’m confused ”

“no, yes, no, i do like you, but i can’t, I have to focus on Hockey right now, i have a lot chances coming up.”

“So you kissed me, and then you tell me, that we can’t do anything about?”

“i’m gonna be going on a lot trips soon, you don’t need a boyfriend who isn’t here.”

I shook my head “ i don’t get this. then why did you kiss me?” I asked

“I’m sorry, i couldn’t help myself.”

“wow, none of this makes sense, you go and beat the crap out of guys because he messed with me, and then you kissed, but you can’t be with me.”

“I’m Sorry, like i said, i shouldn’t have kissed you.”

“was that what you were going to tell me?”

“i know you like me.” he said, i put my head down, tears start filling my eyes. “but us being together, isn’t fair to you. i’m never gonna be here.”

“you could have not said anything. or kissed me”

“i’m very sorry, i do like you, that why i did kiss you. but i can’t sorry.” i shook my head, some more. “i need to get going.” he said, i tears ran down my cheek

“good luck, on everything” I said

“Collins we can still be friends” he said

“can we?” I asked.

That was the last time Sidney and I really talked. We said a few things here and there to each other but not like we use to.. We never really hung out anymore. I never talked him, but it didn’t mean that i never thought about him. Our Senior year, Sidney was barely there, he was on his way to the NHL and everyone knew it. I needed to get my mind off of him, so i put myself into my school work, and going off to college.

              About 7 years Later..................

It was a hot day just the beginning of summer, I was on my dad’s front porch. About five years ago. We moved about 20 minutes away from where when we first moved to cole harbour. Dad and Sara have been in a relationship for about five years now, and getting married at the end of the summer. I couldn’t be any happier for them, they both deserve to be happy. I am working at accounting firm in the city. That pretty much all i’ve been doing. And just wondering what my next step is.

"Collins." Sara came outside.

"Yes." I looked at her.

"Lost in thoughts?" She asked, sitting down.

"Oh, a little." I laughed

"What were you thinking about?" She asked

"Not much, mostly what my next move is?"

"What do you mean?"

"I mean I'm 25 years old, and I live with my dad, and his wife to be."

"I'm more than his wife to be."

"I know, sorry but you guys are gonna want some alone, maybe it's time for me to move out."

"Collins are you sure that's a good idea?"

"Yeah, I mean I can take care of myself. A little one floor apartment. Bedroom, kitchen, bathroom, maybe somewhere to put a small couch."

"I don't think your dad will go for that."

"He doesn't have to go for i, I'm 25 years old."

"We'll I don't like it."

"What?" I asked

"I don't like the idea of you leaving." She said

"Why?"

"Because, I've helped raise you, and Helped you with everything."

"You're more then some nurse, your gonna be my step-mom. No you are my mom." I said

"Collins." She said getting teary eyed.

"It's true, your my mom. You always have been." I smiled. She stood up, and hugged me.

"What's going in out here?" Dad asked

"Oh nothing." Sara said, whipping a tear away.

"Okay." He put his arm around her should. "I thought you were going to the--"

"Oh yes, that why I came outside here. Collins do you want to go to the store with me?" She asked

"Yeah, I'll go." I said, I went in the house to get my bag. Then we were on our way. We were just getting stuff for dinner.

"Collins, can you go get the cheese for the chicken?" Sara asked

"Yeah." I went to down the aisle, stopped at the cheese, I reached up to grab the package.

"Oh here I got it." Someone said grabbed it, I looked up. He turned around and handed it to me. I just looked at him. He stared back.

"Col-Collins."

"Sidney." I said

"Wow, it's been a long time."

"Yeah."

"Like a really long time."

"Yeah, it has."

"How are you?"

"I'm good. Really good." I smiled

"That's good." He said

"Oh umm how are you?" I asked

"I'm good."

"Your home for the summer?"

"Yeah, season ended earlier then hoped this year."

"Yeah, I seen"

"You watch?"

"Yeah, when ever it on."

"Cool" he nodded.

"Congrats, on the NHL, Stanley Cup, Gold Medal, being healty, on everything."

"Thanks, means a lot, coming from you." He smiled, I smiled back. "So what have you been up to?"

"Still living with my dad, working at a accounting firm in the city. Hopefully moving out soon."

"Yeah." He laughed "sounds like everything is going good for you."

"It's good, and you?"

"Hockey." He said, we both laughed.

"Sidney?" Sara came up behind me.

"Sara, how it going?" He asked

"I'm really good, getting married."

"Oh"

"To my dad." I said,

"Wow, congrats. For both of you."

"Thank you." She said

"Collins, umm maybe we can get together sometime soon?"

"Ahh yeah, sure that sounds good."

"Okay."

"Baby, did you get te cheese?" A blonde girl, put her hand on Sidney shoulder. He looked down.

"Ah."

"Oh who this?" She asked

"Um this is Collins, and Sara, I went to School with Collins."

"Oh Hi nice to meet you." She said

"Hi." I said

"Hello." Sara said

"Umm this is Brooke. My umm Girlfriend." He looked at Me. She smiled. No one said anything until, Sid spoke up.

"Well umm I'll see you around."

"Ahh yeah sure."

"Oh here." He handed me the cheese.

"Thanks." I said, he nodded. "See ya."

"Bye." I said. He turned around Brooke grabbed his arm. I looked up at Sara, and let out a long breath.

"You okay?" She asked

"Yeah, I'm fine, why wouldn't I?" I asked, putting the cheese in the buggy.

"I don't know, just asking." She said, and we went and finished shopping.
